Not all tits'n'tentacles

Can Japanese comics conquer the UK? In Japan, manga account for nearly 40
per cent of everything in print. Across Europe and America, they are the
fastest-growing publishing sector, now hitting the best-sellers lists. Manga
are poised to be big in Britain thanks to dynamic publishers like Boychild,
Fanfare and Creation aiming at the post-Pokémon generation. Meet bright
young manga talents direct from Tokyo:

Hisaki Sakurai, who has adapted The Ring and features in Manga Mover,
Boychild's brand new anthology with other guest artist Misano Rocks;

Kan Takahama, rising star of 'Nouvelle Manga' translated by Fanfare, creator
of the the sexy slice-of-life Kinderbook and Mariko Parade, the tender

Manga Live!

Manga Masterclass 1.30-4pm

Watch or take part in two one-hour programmes of 'live' demonstrations,
practical lessons, jam sessions and story creation with the invited guests
from Tokyo, joined by our Tokyo guests and Takashi 'Fashionable Fascism'
Makita and other London-based mangaka. Suitable for ages 16 and older.

This opens with a London preview screening of Rouge Farm, the first
'Scottish anime' introduced by co-director Garry Marshall.
